Bowman-Haley Dam Structural Movement Survey
southwest North Dakota

The Omaha District of the US Army Corps of Engineers commissioned Eisenbraun and Associates to perform a structural monitoring survey on the Bowman-Haley Dam in southwestern North Dakota.
The E/A Approach
In performing the survey, precise global and state plane coordinates were determined on fifteen control points with static GPS surveys. E/A surveyors ran differential level circuits with an electronic digital level to monitor vertical movement on numerous points along the length of the dam. Settlement surveys were performed on the outlet conduit of the dam – such surveys required that confined space precautions be taken.
The Outcome
A final report was developed that included analysis of results and comparisons with previous surveys and the tabulation of state plane coordinates with all results reported to the nearest 0.001 foot. Eisenbraun and Associates has repeated the monitoring survey work at the Bowman-Haley Dam in subsequent years.
