Weatherby Lake Sedimentation Survey
near Kansas City, Missouri

Eisenbraun and Associates was requested to conduct a hydrographic survey of Weatherby Lake in northwestern Kansas City, Missouri. Weatherby Lake covers approximately 280 acres at normal pool with a maximum depth of 85 feet. The purpose of the survey was to provide the data necessary to develop a digital terrain model and contour map of the lake bed. The Lake Association had minimal data from a previous survey and desired to capture data again at the same locations to determine the sedimentation that had taken place since that time.
The E/A Approach
Utilizing a fully automated 26-foot hydrographic survey vessel and GPS positioning system, E/A re-established the location of the previous transects as well as new transects where required. A total of 49 cross-sections of the lake were surveyed. E/A established permanent control at the lake and a coordinate system to enable future monitoring of the ranges surveyed. Horizontal position was maintained using Trimble 4000 SSE GPS receivers. Survey crews utilized an ODOM Echotrac Model DF-3200 fathometer to determine the top of the sediment layer. Echo sonic sounding charts were recorded for all ranges during the survey.
The Outcome
Data from the project were provided in both hard copy and electronic format. The project was completed and data were provided to the client more than one month prior to the agreed deadline.
