Agriculture Holding Pond As-built Survey

Northwest Iowa

An existing cattle feedlot in northwestern Iowa was required to make improvements necessary to comply with current environmental regulations. Eisenbraun and Associates was hired to design, provide construction staking and construction observation services of an approved wastewater management system. Following construction, an as-built survey was completed to verify that the facilities were constructed according to the plans and to check the volumes of containment structures. Eisenbraun and Associates utilized their laser scanner to determine the volume of the containment structures and to map the newly constructed features.

The E/A Approach
In combination with GPS real time kinematic equipment, E/A surveyors used their Leica ScanStation 2 laser scanner to survey the containment structures and to map the newly constructed feedlot features. The laser scanner was able to capture the required information without having to place the surveyors in dangerous areas such as the containment structure itself or the livestock pens. The volume of the containment structures were computed on site and the new features were placed on the drawing back at the office.

The Outcome
The site was scanned and volumes were computed on-site in just a few hours. E/A efficiently completed the project within budget and within the project schedule.
