Sacred Heart Church Survey

Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton SD

Sacred Heart Catholic Church was evaluating the feasibility of building a parish center with administrative offices, and a Middle School Building. Eisenbraun and Associates agreed to use our 3-D high definition laser scanner to survey both the exterior and interior of the church.

The E/A Approach
The unique octagonal-shaped church was lacking in detailed as-built plans. Through a combination of exterior and interior scan locations, E/A surveyors collected over 90 million survey points that were all registered into a single point cloud. Because the exterior and interior scans were combined into a unified point cloud, it was possible to cut wall sections at any location and to develop elevation and plan views with great detail. A fly through animation was also created that allowed viewers to easily visualize the church from any perspective both outside and inside. Using Cyclone software, a user can rotate the 3D point cloud to any perspective, zoom in tightly on any detail, measure angles and distances between any objects, and determine elevations and coordinates of any point in the survey. The firm also used a high resolution digital camera to create panoramic photography of the church from each scan setup location.

The Outcome
Eisenbraun and Associates efficiently completed the scanning survey of the church within a short time frame and is working with the Building Committee and project architect to provide the electronic CADD deliverables necessary for development of the project
