Thurnau Addition & Rush Bottom Bend Mitigation Site Boundary Surveys

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contracted Eisenbraun and Associates to perform a boundary survey of two mitigation sites along the Missouri River in northwest Missouri to determine and monument the perimeter of the entire property owned by the U.S. Government in the area.

The E/A Approach

The Thurnau Addition mitigation site is comprised of six parcels of land totaling approximately 1,400 acres located in Holt County, Missouri. Many of the records for this property are aliquot descriptions tied to the Tarkio River. Most of the segments of the boundary are not accessible from public roads.

The Rush Bottom mitigation site is located in Holt County, Missouri and Richardson County, Nebraska. This site is comprised of twelve parcels of land totaling approximately 760 acres. Between the two sites it was necessary to subdivide 22 sections within four different townships located in both the States of Nebraska and Missouri. A total of 87 PLSS corners were either recovered or re-established in the course of the survey.

Plats for the boundary surveys were created using Microstation V8. All survey work was done using the Missouri State Plane Coordinate System and the North American Datum of 1983. ESRI geodatabase files and FGDC compliant metadata files were also required for project deliverables.

The Outcome
The project was completed on time and within budget. The Rush Bottom survey was later modified to add an additional 786 acres to the south of the site.
