Easement Surveys for Eastside Drainage Project

Platte, South Dakota

The City of Platte, South Dakota, a small community in south central South Dakota, contracted Eisenbraun and Associates to design and construct a major storm sewer system for the city under a substantial FEMA grant. Platte sits on glacial till soils which drain slow, especially with very little topographical relief. As a result, the eastern portion of Platte frequently flooded. Eisenbraun and Associates studied the situation and recommended that storm drainage needed to be directed to underground piping that would take it out of the city. An early critical phase of this project included the survey and subsequent preparation of legal descriptions for numerous drainage ways as well as construction easements and permanent easements for the operation and maintenance of the storm sewer.

The E/A Approach
Eisenbraun and Associates crews surveyed eight full city blocks that included the property of 31 landowners. A Licensed Land Surveyor conducted detailed research, and then directed the field surveys.

The Outcome
Good communication and cooperation were maintained with all parties involved as the survey was successfully completed. After implementing the design, the City of Platte has been able to avoid localized flooding problems.
