Benedictine Campus Topographic Survey
Yankton, South Dakota

The Benedictine Sisters founded a beautiful campus along the bluffs of the Missouri River in Yankton, South Dakota more than a century ago. Over the years of their presence in the community, the Benedictine Sisters have made many wonderful improvements to their campus and to the adjoining properties of Mount Marty College and Avera Sacred Heart Hospital – both thriving organizations that were begun by the Benedictines. The administrations of the Benedictine Monastery, Mount Marty College, and Avera Sacred Heart Hospital approached Eisenbraun and Associates and requested the firm to develop a topographic survey and mapping system for their campuses.
The E/A Approach
Eisenbraun and Associates worked with the administrative staff of all three organizations to develop a complete mapping system of the three-campus complex covering well over 80 acres. A comprehensive topographic survey was completed that include the footprints and floor elevations of all buildings, locations of steam and utility tunnels, numerous buried utilities, irrigation systems, and other physical features. The entire mapping system was provided to the organizations in CADD format as well as in color-coded large-scale maps.
The Outcome
Eisenbraun and Associates’ topographical survey and follow-up mapping work has received high acclaim. E/A won the second place award from the National Society of Professional Surveyors in their National “Map/Plat Design Competition” for topographical maps. The distinction was presented to the firm in 2001. Eisenbraun and Associates continues to update the campus maps on an ongoing basis to reflect new construction and changes on the campuses.
