Hartington Transfer Station

Hartington, Nebraska

The City of Hartington, Nebraska engaged Eisenbraun and Associates to design the Hartington Solid Waste Transfer Station/Recycling Center. After initial consultation, it was determined the new facility would be constructed adjacent to an existing city landfill east of Hartington.

The E/A Approach
Eisenbraun and Associates provided design and construction management services to the City of Hartington for a multiple use municipal waste handling facility. E/A designed approximately ¾ mile of on-site access road, reinforced concrete foundations, floors, and exterior retaining walls associated with the building. A split-level 80 foot x 100 foot pre-engineered steel frame building with an attached 20 foot x 25 foot office was utilized to provide a durable and cost effective structure. Notable features of the building included a tipping area where waste materials are dumped directly into a transfer-trailer parked on the lower level area, and a clear space adjacent to the tipping area with six truck level docks for recycling activities.

The Outcome
The project was successfully completed and accepted by the City of Hartington for a total construction cost of $616,870 which was funded in part by a Nebraska Solid Waste grant
